Yesterday was good, but wayyy too long for my liking. My morning was full of time because I actually woke up to my alarm. I was able to get everything done that I wanted before heading off for work. Things like stretching, practicing some Swahili, calling friends/family and whatnot all fit very nicely into the two and a half hours before I needed to go to work.
The work day was just about the opposite: it felt like I was cramming way too many things into a way too small a space of time. My first few hours were busy with resuming a new data analysis I had started the other day. Then I jumped into a meeting, but that had to be rescheduled for later. Next I started on creating new website pages for the program that’s in Central African Republic (which seems like it’s going to take many days); for the website I have to create new infographics, translate all of the material into French with the help of Google Translate, rebrand everything, and so on. It’s a very mindless task which is nice, but if I didn’t have the energy that was pumping through me yesterday I would’ve probably found myself nodding off.

Finally, at some point, I looked up and it was 4:00pm—time for that rescheduled meeting. I realized that everyone else had been kinda absent the whole day. My desk mate was only ever in the room to quickly something and every time I wandered around to get water, take a short break or sue the bathroom, no one was to be seen. It turned out all my coworkers were in a meeting —which happened to last all day—discussing the new project that is being planned for Shinyanga. Unfortunately this meant that I hadn’t been able to ask my coworker to order lunch, but thankfully she knew what I would want and ordered preemptively. Still, the food came late and I found myself eating lunch very late.

After the meeting and lunch it was 5:00pm, but I still had a lot more I wanted to get done. It wasn’t until 7:00pm that I left the office, and walking home, I finally seemed to be on everyone else’s schedule—the streets were lively with everybody heading home for the day, that is.

I debated whether I should go for my run or not. In the end I came to the conclusion that it would be best for me if I did (my past few nights or poor sleep made me weary of calling it a day after no such exercise and such a long day just sitting in a chair).

I stopped by a new mishkaki shop after the run. The “chef” here seemed to be a little distracted while cooking my skewers and let them get a little crispy, but of course I still enjoyed them!
My bet on the run panned out and I wound up sleeping very well last night. It might also have something to do with the fact that it wasn’t until nearly 10:30pm I got into bed. Anyways! Today will be nice because it’s Friday, but I also think there will be the possibility of the special African-Indian fusion lunch dish I had a couple weeks back. (And don’t think it’s sad I’m getting excited over a lunch, if you had tasted it, you would be excited too).
