DAY 174

Wowowow! A new month and ever so closer to my departure from Tanzania. I’m coming to the point where I’m ready to go home, but I’m continuing to push myself to make the most of every moment here because I know I’ll be upset at myself if I look back and see I just waited my time out.

Meeting

My morning went smoothly. I made a couple calls to friends and family which in reality probably makes the homesickness worse. I got to work early and it seemed to be one of those days where everyone silently agreed to show up late. I had the office to myself for the first 30 minutes of the day. Yesterday there was a long drawn out meeting—as they usually seem to go. Interestingly it was online despite all of the present members all being people dispersed about different rooms of the office. It had my cracking up especially when there were connection issues or tech problems that put a hitch into the meeting.

Gas Prices

My run after work was a tough one. I wanted to give my best go at a mile time because normally I’m running 3-5 miles at a 10 minute/mile pace so I thought it was time I try to impress myself with some lower numbers. It ended up being 8:13. I’m a bit bummed, but I also feel like I could have done better so maybe next week I’ll try again! I got some mishkaki after the brief exercise and walked back home. I noticed for the first time in a while the gas prices of a station here. I had thought that things had settled down in Iran and that prices had dropped again, but I guess I was wrong because here gas is 4600tsh/L which translates to $6.50/Gallon. I heard that it’s not too bad in Portland these days, but I feel bad for Cader who is down in San Francisco with an inefficient, gas guzzling truck.

I slept well last night even after mot exercising too much. I’m noticing that the work days where I don’t exercise and sit at the desk all day (as opposed to going to the field) normally lead to poor sleep—I guess last night was an exception. Today should be pretty routine. No field visits this week unfortunately, but I’m really pushing for em so I can get out a few more times before I take off!
