DAY 171

Yesterday was a mix of lazy and productive. I got started with the day late, but by 10:00 I was in the full swing of things. I spent a couple hours doing some work which wasn’t very exciting, but it put me in a good mood to get something done.

The Set-up

A little after 1:00pm I went for a french fry omelette. I had to search far and wide because it was Sunday and everyone was at church or taking the morning to rest. It’s very hard to come by anywhere that has opened up before 3:00pm, so I felt lucky to even find this spot. You can see the very simple set up they’ve got going here. One pot of constantly boiling oil to toss the cut potatoes into, and a pretty rickety stove to cook the eggs. Behind me there was one person cutting all the potatoes and then another guy was working the more front-of-house type of duties. Seems like a pretty simple operation and given how much I enjoy my french fry omelettes maybe I’ll have to find a friend and start a little stand of my own!

After the lunch I went back home and was really lazy for a few hours. I was on my phone doing some duolingo and just scuffling about. I wanted to go for a run, but I’ve learned that if I go too early in the afternoon it’s miserable. So, I waited until 4:30 and then took off.

I’ve found a strategy where my foot doesn’t hurt while I’m running and actually feels a little relief from the heel pains that just won’t seem to go away. That strategy is running at an 8 minute pace. I can only sustain an 8 minute pace for a little over a mile. So unfortunately my strategy isn’t very feasible for my longer runs, but at least it there.

Power Outage

When I got back home I was bummed to find the power had gone out. This didn’t really cause a problem for me, there’s not much I rely on that requires electricity so I was fine. I did my laundry and showered without a problem. It made me realize how inconvenient it would have been if I was at home and wanted to do laundry, but good thing that’s not a problem for me here and I’ve learned how to hand wash clothes! The only rough part about the power going out was that I wasn’t able to read before bed and the fan couldn’t help to cool me down throughout the night.
