I hate to say it, but yesterday was about as boring as it gets and I loved it! I slept in a little after my alarm and had to skip my morning stretching. I’m really not good at getting up earlier than my body wants—that’s one of the big things I’ve learned over these months. Breakfast and my walk to work perked me up, but I was still a few minutes behind schedule. Normally I show up to the office at 7:45am, but yesterday I arrived about 8:10am. Normally this wouldn’t be a problem, most people don’t show up until half past eight anyways, but I had forgot that Monday we have our weekly devotion. It’s not like it was a big deal being a touch tardy, but I missed my favorite part where we sign a hymn or two from the song book. (That’s the only part I can understand and take part in because I can read Swahili pretty well, whether I understand it or not is a different story, and then the rest of the devotion goes in one ear and out th—you know, I don’t think it even goes in that one ear, that’s how firm the language barrier is).
Although I don’t understand the devotion, and I’m not particularly religious, I still think it is a really good way to start the week. Bringing the whole team together in a way where everybody has a space to share their concerns or positives really creates a sense of togetherness and support between coworkers and that’s something I think a lot of teams lack.
Work was pretty busy actually. I’ve “finished” the last report I was working on—now it’s just waiting on some other people and I can’t do much about that—and began another yesterday. Now that I know what’s going on it’s a lot less time floundering about with all the tools and softwares and a lot more time actually being productive. There was also a totally brutal meeting that lasted probably half an hour longer than it should have for the sole reason that the WiFi was being crappy. I think there were teams from five different areas where WFG is, so no one could really say whose connection it was.

I stayed at work until 5:30pm and hustled on home so I could get going on my run and still have some time left in my evening. I took a nice 3 mile jog along my usual route, but boy-oh-boy taking last week off has really slowed me down (or maybe I needed to take a longer break, who knows…?). I know you can’t see it too well, but I was wet from head to toe with sweat and I’m sure I smelled great. And now that I’m writing this, I realize that I haven’t shared a picture of myself in a while. So, let this serve as a welfare check and proof that it hasn’t been some random person keeping the blog going while I go run off and join rural Tanzanian life.
I was super excited because I found myself with a good chunk of time after showering and getting settled down for the night. I’m coming to what I assume is the climax of my book (Crime and Punishment); I still have a ways left, but it’s building up gradually and I’m trying to rush to the interesting part of the book because it’s been a bit dull up until now. I was able to get about an hour in of reading before knocking out.
