Yesterday was a peaceful day. I woke up more tired than usual despite sleeping in an extra hour. At school we had parent teacher conferences; I had to hurry getting ready in the morning because Abby wanted to get to school early to prepare. I didn’t have anything to do and I was happy to have some productive free time on my hands, not just sitting and waiting like the day prior.

Parents started to show up around 9:30 (they were told to come between 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.). I served as a greeter for a little bit—taking down names, signatures, and welcoming the parents—until I got bored and went to the computer/music building. I practiced some guitar and worked on my computer. A few kids who were dragged along to the parent teacher conferences came to hang out with me and kept me some company. There was a heavy rush of parents in the morning and around 2:00 it slowed down to a trickle, allowing the teachers to take a brief break for lunch.

After lunch it was more of the same. I went to two meetings as a parent of Jovin and Rebecca (Lucas was out of town and Edith was doing something else). Jovin is sitting right in the middle of his class and is excelling in English. Unfortunately I cannot say the same for Rebecca. She has scored the lowest on exams across the board since the start of the year. Her main teacher said that if possible she should be moved back one if not two grades, but it’s too late at this point.
Because very few parents came right when the school opened, we ended up staying late with meetings. It was 5:00 by the time I left for home.
Yesterday’s parent-teacher conferences brought back some memories of when I was in elementary and middle school. Normally my memory is very poor and doesn’t stretch too far back, so it was nice to be reminded of those times.

Finally! Yesterday held the perfect conditions for some football—sunny, not too hot, and plenty of people. John arrived home from college yesterday afternoon and a few cousins came over to spend the night. We played football for hours and I had missed it! Normally when Jovin falls down or “gets hurt” (aka gets tired) he will sit down and whine that he was fouled. Yesterday he had to man up a little bit because he didn’t want to look soft in front of his cousins, and it was nice to have someone keeping him honest!
For dinner I had close to three servings. I was pretty tired and hungry after the long day and sports activities. I went to bed early hoping I could get some extra sleep, but I guess my body wasn’t on the same page. I woke up early and, despite my best efforts, couldn’t really fall back to sleep. Today should be fun; there are many people around the house so I don’t think I will get bored and it seems to want to be nice weather!
