DAY 80

Yesterday had a lot of variation. The morning started with doing laundry. Because there’s no reliable weather forecast, there’s a lot of guess work in trying to time sunny and rainy days. But yesterday was one of those days where the sky is shining clear blue from daybreak and the only clouds are pure white fluff.

Early Morning Blue

Getting laundry up on a day like yesterday is something that makes me feel lucky and happy. Most of the morning was spent on my computer. The cousins were still over and everybody was locked in on their video games.

I was working on building my website, but ran into a lot of features stuck behind paywalls and need to figure out long, long, long workarounds. I’m hoping by the end of this week I will have everything finished. As for now, you should be reading this on a newish layout. (If you find and issues or have any recommendations on how things are looking/operating please let me know! I would love the feedback!)

Funeral #2

Around midday Lucas grabbed John and I to go on a little adventure. I still had to pay him back for Serengeti park fees, so we stopped by an ATM to start. After that we took a long journey down some pretty sketchy and rain-altered roads to reach this home. I had no clue where we were going—it was only once we exited the car and started walking towards the home that Lucas reminded me we were going to a funeral. I don’t know how I had forgot about this, but there I was at my second Tanzanian funeral. We were very quick, we maybe stayed for 30 minutes and it was really quiet and solemn.

After the funeral we hurried over to Lucas’ new school site. It was a long journey. A mountain stands in between the side of town we were on and Kisongo (where home and school are located), so we tried to cut across it. We made it 3/4 of the way along when we ran into a washed out road that was impassable. We turned around, back tracked, and took the long route around the mountain.

Breaking Ground

The foundation for the school is about to be poured. The past weeks of rain have really slowed down the progress, so now that everything is drying out they can get back to it. Today I have to be at school for English lessons, but I’m hoping I can get to the new school construction site once I’m done or later in the evening to see how they go about this building process.

Yesterday evening when we got back from the little outing it was football time. I wore myself out pretty good which wasn’t a good idea. After dinner I had a zoom call that started at 10:00 and went for an hour and a half. I’m feeling pretty tired this morning, but I’m hoping I’ll perk up once the day gets going.
