DAY 193

Yesterday was a struggle all the way through to the end. The moment I woke up, I knew I had already lost the battle against exhaustion. (And I apologize for the previous days very underwhelming blog despite all the potential for personal reflection and cultural observations).

My day at work was the most unproductive day I’ve had so far. It’s not like I slept in or showed up late; I simply had no bandwidth to focus. In college, days of sleep deprivation were pretty common and I feel like I was normally able to power through them—I guess I’ve lost the touch. I kept jumping around projects and tasks and could never really settle on one long enough to get any meaningful work done.

After Work Fruit
Sunset Run

After work I debated going straight to sleep at 5:30pm. However, I realized the potential opportunity to practice my sleep deprived running for Hood to Coast and took a nice jog. It did take some working up to and I needed a little energy boost in the form of peanuts and bananas, but it eventually happened and it was rather picturesque. The hazy orange sky that comes around near days end reminds me of Portland skies whenever there are wildfires ablaze, so I’m wondering if certain climatic conditions around Shinyanga have cause some fires to break out and smog up the air a little.

Repainted Room

Apparently my hotel room was painted while I was at work yesterday. The fumes were rather strong, so I had to air out the room for a little bit. I’m not sure they ever went away, but after a certain amount of time I wasn’t able to smell it any longer.
