DAY 169

The days are starting to fly by. Soon enough it’s going to be July and from the start of July I’ll have a month and a handful of days until I’m leaving Tanzania. Yesterday at work was good. The boss came back in the morning and then left in the around noon. Almost everyone else followed his cue, but making sure to give enough space just in case he maybe forgot something and had to turn back around. This left the office pretty quiet—including myself there were only three of us who hung around until quitting time.

Bird

After work I went for a run/walk. I decided I was ready to start running again, especially because I felt pretty cooped up after a week of not really going out much. I only made it about a mile with the running and then decided I can at least walk around.

Road Less Traveled

I went down a side road that seemed to plunge into the bush.

Pond Remnants
Tree Choppin
Fishing Time

I ran into an old man who was on his way to go fishing and he was nice enough to let me join/observe him. I spent an hour just watching him fish. We couldn’t communicate very much—he spoke zero English, I could only understand a little of his Swahili. We got each other’s names, I understood that he was fishing for small fish, and that was it.

Empty Handed

I sat in silence with him for about an hour just observing. He didn’t catch anything unfortunately, but I’m used to that with Grandpa Dave, so it wasn’t much of a disappointment.

On my way home I stopped to get my mishkaki dinner. It was pretty late at that point, so I ate it quickly and hurried home to go to sleep.

Today I plan to go to the thrift market again and hopefully find some clothes or other stuff. I’m a bit worried though about my suitcase being full and overweight, thankfully my airfare allows two checked bags of up to 24kg, so I guess if it comes to it I’ll just go find a cheap suitcase somewhere or even just toss stuff in a box or something.
