Yesterday was a good day.

I showed up early at work as I have been doing all this past week. I’ve decided that I like moving my hours up a little bit so then I have more time in the afternoon to do things. Yesterday the only exciting thing to happen at work was our regular lunch spot being closed—easy fix, we just had to order from a new place.

I took a longer run than normal after work. I’ve decided that I really enjoy the habit. It’s such a good way to clear my mind, but sometimes I’m too hard on myself if I miss a day which is something I need to fix. I ran into some cows acting as a roadblock at one point. It’s crazy that these wander future-burgers feel normal now. I remember first seeing Arusha and all the Maasai herding their cattle and being dumbfounded. Time and exposure can make you accustomed to nearly anything I bet.

Along my run I discovered a future weekend activity. This weekend I have some plans and don’t think I’ll be able to go the Jambo Zoo quite yet, but I’m hoping next weekend I’ll find some time for it.

For dinner I went to a new place. I was very happy when I got a free side of fries with my mishkaki! This place now sits at the top of my list of mishkaki restaurants, for sure. For the past month I haven’t been eating dinner too often, and when I do I normally frequent the same couple places. But I think another new way to help me ensure I’m making the most of my opportunity to explore a different culture and place is never dining at the same location. As much as I love the idea of becoming a regular, eating dinner at a different place every night is an easy way to change things up and see the city a little more.
After dinner it was already pretty late, so it was back to the hotel and time for winding down. I’ve been listening to a new audiobook recently—The Hunchback of Notre Dame—and I’m at a crossroads. I’ve enjoyed the first hour or two of it, but now it’s become quite boring. It feels like it spends 30 minutes describing a single road and I’m not sure if I want to suffer through it. I’ve already invested a bit of time here, but I’m having to reckon with just accepting the sunk cost, or if I should push on. Anyways, it was nice to listen to as I was falling asleep because it was boring as heck and I didn’t care if I heard it or not, but when I’m running I like an entertaining story.
