DAY 154

Yesterday was a long day. Well, as long as a day can be where I’m going to sleep at 9pm and waking up at 6am.

Walk to Work

Work went as usual, except that I showed up pretty early. For the past few days I’ve been getting to work around 7:30am which is nice because most other people don’t show up until 8:30. That solid hour of quiet space is nice because once the day really starts, the office becomes noisy and people are bustling about, which can sometimes pull me away from productive work.

Hazy Intersection

After work I wasn’t up for a run—it’s been nice letting my body rest for a few days—so I decided to instead go walking.

Everything Store

On my walk I was searching for some chapstick. The other day my stick from home reached the end of its life and I was surprised at how long it lasted. But this left my lips feeling rough and dry from the heat and sun. I stopped in on some beauty shops, sure that they would have it, but they only had bright pink lipstick which I’m not sure I could pull off. Finally someone pointed me to this store. I never would have guessed what appears to be this home goods store would have the product that belongs in a health/drug store. Anyways, I got it and now my smackers are again happy campers.

New Restaurant

I stumbled upon a new restaurant that was advertising mishkaki! And you know I can’t so know to a good mishkaki! I bought their last four skewers and was delighted with the quality of the meat.

Fruit Stand

After I had finished eating I walked around what seemed to be a market area for a bit. It was nearing 8:00pm and I was shocked by how many people were still out and about. I walked around for maybe half an hour before finding my way back to the hotel. I wrapped up my night fairly quickly, but I found a good chunk of time for reading which was nice. Nothing special planned for today. Maybe I’ll try to do a load of laundry, but it’s such a time suck. I find it funny when I say “do a load of laundry” because back home that implies spending maybe 2 minutes putting it in the washer, 2 minutes moving it to the dryer and then 20ish minutes folding them up. Here it means one to two hours scrubbing clothes by hand, 15 minutes hanging them up, a full day waiting for them to dry, and then the same 20ish minutes putting them away. But I gotta do what I gotta do, just part of the learning experience!
