DAY 73

Yesterday was supposed to be a lazy day. Instead it was spent in Tarangire. I had gone to bed late the night prior (I guess you could say in the early hours of yesterday) a little past midnight. I was expecting to sleep in, but I woken up at 6:00 with the news we would be leaving for a day trip at 7:30. So, I spent some time getting ready, had some breakfast and waited until 8:30 when we left actually left—as a rule of thumb, you add sixty minutes to whatever time you were told (and I’m lucky enough to have experience with this scheduling strategy back home from the good ol’ boy Sebby Rangel, so it’s nothing new).

About 20 minutes after hitting the road we had to turn back because we had locked the dog, Cloudy, inside the house and he normally stays outside. He was very excited when we rescued him from the restraining walls of home and thanked us by trying to join the little safari trip. He ran out and jumped into the car; he was very insistent and took some convincing to stay home.

Grocery Shopping

On the way, we stopped for some meat to cook for lunch. This was where we got it. I can’t imagine ever seeing this type of scene back home. It took about 4 hours total to reach the camp; we had left home around 9 (after the cloudy fiasco) and arrived a little after 1.

Twiga

On the drive in to the camp we didn’t see many animals. A few giraffes and a few elephants that we sped past—Tarangire has the highest density of elephants out of all the Tanzania national parks. I got to relax a little while lunch was being cooked.

Progress

I spent some time wandering around the site, seeing the progress from last time. It’s very impressive what Lucas has built here in such a short amount of time.

Tembo

We had lunch and lounged around the camp for a bit. Everyone was tired and no one really wanted to go for a game drive (especially the driver, so that kind of vetoed everything else). We left the camp at 5 sharp. On the way out we saw a few animals. The special sighting was this heard of elephants crossing the road. We didn’t make any stops on the way home other than for a nice dinner at a spot pretty close to home.

Dinner!

Dinner was delicious, but late. We got home at half past 9 and I was burnt. I showered and took no delay getting into bed. Today I’m very excited to be going back to school, I’ve missed it this past week!
