DAY 167

My morning routine is really coming together these days. Just recently I have been able to get up at 5am and add an extra hour to my day. I was worried that it would lead me to be super tired (stealing that hour of sleep and whatnot) but I’m finding that more than anything it just helps me to fall asleep more efficiently when I go to bed. With this time, I’ve gotten back into the habit of listening to the news and cranking out a little duolingo in the morning—preceded by my stretching and blog drafting, of course.

Yesterday’s work day was a bit upsetting—the office environment is proving to be challenging this week. Yesterday my morning was fairly productive, but my afternoon was plagued by endless distractions. After taking lunch it seemed like everybody checked out and decided the day was over. But it must be ingrained that “you have to stay at work until 5pm” because rather than doing work or going home, it was decided that watching a soccer game would be a good way to spend the afternoon. I think it would have been fine if it was a silent viewing party. I wasn’t so lucky though.

After work I went home and did something a bit different; I looked up exercises and stretching routines that I can be doing—just with and open space, no weights or anything—to improve my stability, strength, and endurance for when I get back to surfing. As I’ve been running a lot, one of the goals is to get in a better condition for when I start surfing this back half of the summer. But now that I’m taking a break, I decided I needed to find a more comfortable alternative. Let me say, that hour and a half routine has left me extremely sore this morning in just about every part of my body. I’m going to take that as a good sign though, as I continue this hopeful productive training—seeing as I’m not near any water I can’t really see the progress, so I’ll just trust the process for the next handful of weeks.

Laundry Room

I did a load of laundry after the surf training (which is still very funny for me to think about—I’m in a scorching hot African country, working for a water supply NGO focused on solving the extreme lack of water issue, using my free time to training for a water sport). It didn’t take as long as it normally does, but I’m unsure if this is because I’m getting more efficient or more lazy.

I haven’t been taking dinner this week because lunch has been a heaping plate of rice with veggies, beans, and sauce that keeps me pretty full. It makes me sad because I really enjoy going out to the restaurants around town, but I know that over the weekends (or even future weeks when lunch becomes insufficient) I can easily resume that activity.

85th Birthday

From the appearance of these two old geezers I know it’s hard to tell which one is turning 85 (because both look so young of course). But jokes aside, my Aunt Moya turned 85 yesterday and I thought that amazing milestone deserved a note. Happy birthday!
