Yesterday was super fun. I was able to get out and tour the city of Hawassa a bit.

My morning started with a walk to the hotel where a few coworkers were staying. I had some breakfast there with them before we were kicked out—the prime minister of Ethiopia is visiting there this weekend and all the rooms and guests were being emptied out.

The first stop of the day was Amora Gedel park, a place known for its monkey population!

Monkeys have always been my favorite animal, but seeing the baboons in Serengeti made me a bit weary of them because of how ugly they looked and aggressive I was told they are. But these monkeys were so cute.

There was also this second type of monkey in the park, I like to call it the skunk monk.

Where the park meets the lake, a bunch of fishermen were out fishing. (Thanks to grandpa Dave for editing this photo for me).

The next stop was a popular coffee shop. I normally hate coffee—I think it tastes burnt and gross—but I was surprised when I actually enjoyed this cup of joe.

We walked around the “piazza” (city center) for a bit.

To end the day, we found our way to an ice cream store!
After I dropped off at home and my buddies had to leave to catch their flights home, I went to the market to do a bit of shopping. I think Saturday’s must be the main market days because there were way more people than usual and extra vendors had set up some shops.
I got home from the market, made some dinner, watched a movie and then went to bed. Today should be a bit slower, I’m pretty tired and worn out from the past week, so it’ll be nice to take it easy.
