Yesterday turned out to be fairly eventful despite the slow start. My morning was super lazy and I didn’t really want to do anything throughout the whole of it. Thankfully, I got a momentary urge to go out, so I grab ahold of it and called up my friend to see what I could get up to.

She said she was going shopping and I could join her, so I walked on over to her house.

Being midday on a Sunday, there were a lot of church activities going on. I walked past many churches and heard lots of singing, hallelujah’s, and ululation, but was most shocked at the sight of this one. Thin tin sheets served as the walls which were only partially formed, but it didn’t seem to stop a massive crowd from gathering for service.

I met my friend at her house and we took off to the market. It was pretty hectic, looked to be permanently makeshift, and had just about anything you could need (food wise).

I was a little torn seeing the chickens and ducks caged up like this. I’m sure that these fellows have lived pretty good lives and are very natural, but walking past people five feet away plucking feathers from limp chicken bodies felt too real for a sheltered American like myself.

One thing that was pretty funny to see was how to market stalls have expanded into the street. If you look at the ceiling, you can kind of tell where another addition has been made. I’m guessing that over the years, as the market street has become more popular, shops have began protruding further and further into the street, sellers simply adding a roof over their claim on the side walk and pushing supplies out onto that section of the street.

We found our way from the first market to a second market dedicated just for fruits.

After all the shopping, we went back to her home and I took a good ol lesson in Ugali cooking. This recipe was very simple, it’s only water and flour. But getting the nice consistency was not simple. I was relieved of my mixing/cooking duties after I proved to be a failure so I just got to observe. However, I hope I can learn how to cook it correctly because it’s a really easy, simple, and quick carb staple that I wouldn’t mind utilizing in the future.
After a 5:00pm lunch and sharing some stories I went home and retired for the day. Last nights sleep was better than the previous few night, I think because I was feeling especially exhausted, but I still feel a little fatigued and think that I’m lacking some hours. Hopefully I can find some time to catch up this week!
