DAY 55

Parade in Progress

The morning route when fine. There was a little bit of trauma lingering in the air from the previous day. The roads were dried out as it hadn’t rained over night, so it was fine driving. We arrived at school around 8:00. I had to get right to preparing for exams and missed out on parade. Class 7 had their state proctored exams (well, I was a proctor for one of the two rooms because only one state employee was sent). It took most of the day doing these exams. There weren’t any problems and the kids were pretty well behaved. Many of them didn’t finish their math test and were pretty upset about it when I was taking away papers with a couple blank spaces for answers. But other subject’s exams went well. The kids finished way before the allotted time ran out and we were able to get all but one test done. They normally take 7 tests over two days.

Crops in Progress

There was no remedial yesterday because of the exams. It’s interesting though, because class 4 (the other remedial class) didn’t have exams and their remedial was canceled as well—my theory is that some teachers were excited to put off remedial, forget any reason. The picture above—of the field of crops—can be compared to a previous one from the same spot about a month ago. Abby and I got home around 4:30. I don’t remember the last time I was afforded the luxury of an afternoon nap—I know it was most likely only a week ago—but that extra hour of sleep felt like a 3 month hibernation. I woke up and hung the clothes I had stuck in the washer before my nap. I helped a bit with hanging some new curtains the family was putting up all over the house. Then I had some dinner and sat trying to figure out an eSIM for about an hour.

Power in Progress

During the process of figuring out my eSIM, the power had gone out. This had happened before, but normally some solar batteries kick in. Lucas said that he thinks there might be an issue with the batteries, I think it might be an issue with the sun—it’s been very cloudy, foggy, and dull recently. It was very interesting to see how they got the power back. They had to buy more, using a little remote looking thing, and less than a second after putting in the order, the lights shot on. Good news: I figured out my eSIM. I’m not sure yet if I can still use iMessage, I’m pretty sure I can’t make phone calls any longer, but I can use WhatsApp for texting, calls and FaceTiming. I went to bed pretty late because I’m nearing the end of my book and I want to finish it quickly. Kind of like ripping off a bandaid, I know I need to do it and I’m pretty sure I’m not going to like it. It rained all through the night—I went to sleep hearing thunder and was woken by a continuation of the same noise. The roads are going to be muddy, but I’m sure we’ve learned, right?
