DAY 117

It was yet another holiday yesterday. I’m not quite sure for what, I think independence from some regime. My morning was spent watching a movie, doing a small bit of work, and finalizing my travel plans. I booked my flight to Tanzania and was surprised it cost near as much as my flight from America to Tanzania. I also got a notification that my visa was accepted, so now I have no more worries other than where I’m going to stay in Shinyanga.

Coffee Lover?

At noon I decided to go out and walk around some more. I stopped for coffee along my way before having lunch. I was only out for two hours before I became tired and decided I wanted to go rest at home.

Hail?!?!

I was but 10 minutes from reaching home when hail started to fall. These little buggers were actually painful, about the size of marbles—and felt like them too!

Cover

I rushed for cover along with many others. It quickly turned from a light pattering to a heavy storm. I spent an hour and a half hiding out underneath an overhang with about 50 other people. Once it had slowed to a drizzle I decided it best for me to go home (and because I had a meeting).

Balcony View

I got home, had my meeting and then read for a little bit before dinner. I spent this time out on my balcony and was pretty amazed while watching this worker do his thing. I don’t know about you, but I would not opt to be walking along that scaffolding—and for those who have to, I’m amazed that they aren’t shaking with fear every time they look down.

I had my regular dinner—steak and potatoes. I’m surprised by it, but I still enjoy the meal quite a lot. Looking forward, though, I am really excited to be going back to Tanzanian cuisine in a short week. Last night my mosquito net worked wonders; I could hear so many of the things flying around throughout the night, and in the morning dozens were harassing my netting, but I don’t think I got a single bite!
