DAY 103

Yesterday was a good adventure. I think I needed it. The morning didn’t start out too early and I slept in a little which was nice. A crew of us are touring the WFG project sites over the next few days—yesterday we arrived in Bensa.

Country Side

We left Hawassa around 8:00am and got out to Bensa at 11:00am. The drive was long and a little rough at points, but it took us out through the vast countryside of Ethiopia.

Bensa Office
Project Area

After visiting the office and having lunch, we went out to visit the project sites. The altitude of these villages are around 9,000ft. and the individual compounds are so dispersed. It’s amazing that WFG is able to create a census of all 5,000+ households that are in the area of the picture and the surrounding villages. The surveyors and staff must work very hard to make the information accurate.

Water Fetching

We were taken to see places where people fetch water, and with this topography and elevation it is not an easy task.

After the site visits we were taken to see some waterfalls. A “lodge” sits right between two waterfalls and I’m very surprised people were allowed to build in such an environment. I feel like any special land in the U.S. is protected and deemed some type of park.

We got back to the hotel in the evening, took a short rest, then had some dinner. By the time I got in bed it was nearing 10:30pm and I was very tired. My 9 o’clock bedtime has been treating me well, and I don’t seem to like it when I go too far past that. Today is going to be some more site visits and I’m excited to see more of the environment of Ethiopia.
